When Jonny Diaz headed off to Florida State University on a baseball scholarship in the fall of 2002, he was prepared to focus his time and efforts on his athletic skills. However, God had other plans and He began a work in Jonny’s life that led him to put down his bat and glove and instead, pick up his guitar. When you discover that Jonny was the fourth of four brothers to attend college on a baseball scholarship, and that two of his brothers have played ball at a professional level (Matt Diaz is currently the left fielder for the Atlanta Braves.), you can begin to understand the enormity of this decision. But, with God opening the doors, Jonny embarked on an exciting new adventure. Since then, his tremendous songwriting talents, his vocal and guitar playing skills, and his ability to connect with his audiences, have sparked a grassroots buzz that has taken his music nationwide.

Jonny’s debut album, Shades of White, released August 2003 as he entered his sophomore year of college and is a project that continues to impact thousands of lives each year. He released the follow-up CD, Everyday God, during his senior year of college. His sophomore effort offers an even fuller and richer sound than Shades of White, yet maintains the acoustic vibe and melodic style that made his first project so popular.

For his third CD, Jonny traveled to Nashville to record with producer Mitch Dane (Jars of Clay, Bebo Norman). They Need Love released in March 2007 and immediately caught the attention of radio stations across the country, thanks to his song “Hold Me,” which hit the top 40 charts in 2008. There’s no question that Jonny’s lyrics, music, and production thus far represent his growth as a musician and in his walk with God.

May 5th, 2009, Jonny released his latest CD, More Beautiful You. This is his first as a signed artist to INO Records, the home to artists such as MercyMe, Caedmon’s Call, The Fray and many more. This aptly descriptive and intelligent pop effort reveals lyrics, melodies and instrumentation that go far deeper than the stereotypical pop hit. With all songs written or co-written by Jonny, More Beautiful You captivatingly illuminates Jonny’s heart – a heart that is passionate about reaching his generation with the message of God’s love, forgiveness, and grace.

“Instead of focusing solely on the idea of God’s grace, More Beautiful You moves through many different aspects of the Christian faith,” Jonny shares. “One theme that is prevalent throughout the record is truth. We are called to speak and live truth even in a culture that doesn’t agree.”

The project’s powerful first single, “More Beautiful You,” has taken the country by storm. It quickly became the most played and requested song on Christian radio. Co-penned by Jonny, the song aims to tell women they were created by God with a specific purpose in mind.

“The idea that they need to look a certain way in order to be feel beautiful is completely false,” Diaz explains. “Through this song I hope to get the attention of females and tell them the truth found in God’s word, that there could never be a more beautiful you!” The song shares: “If you feel depressed with past regrets / the shameful nights hope to forget can disappear, they can all be washed away/ By the One who’s strong can right your wrongs / Can rid your fears dry all your tears And change the way you look at this big world He will take your dark distorted view / and with His light He will show you truth And again you’ll see through the eyes of a little girl”

Jonny has had the opportunity to open in concert for some of Christian music’s biggest acts (Mercy Me, Stephen Curtis Chapman, ect). He has also performed at some of the largest Christian music festivals in the country (Atlanta Fest, Alive and more). Although he primarily travels as an acoustic act, Jonny has an amazing group of musicians who join him for full band shows.

It has been an incredible ride so far for this talented and young singer/songwriter. He is ready for what lies ahead, as God orchestrates the journey of Jonny Diaz.

    Hi Jonny,
    I am fourteen and my mom played your song ‘more beautiful you’ for me the other day and it really got me, because i feel exactly like that. This song really hit me hard after the rough day at school I had just been through and it made me stop and think. I just love it. I love how you made it have a strong message but you still made it up beat because most songs that have a strong meaning are towards the slower end. I have been listening to it almost non-stop since I heard it. It was really what i needed to hear right then.

    Like Mary Ann I am an avid Atlanta Braves fan and was watching the “Braves Straight Up” show, and your brother (who happens to be one of my favorite players) mentioned you and your music. I listened to “More Beautiful You” and “Hold Me”. Your music is INSPIRING. I especially love how it’s not blatantly and forcefully preachy like a lot of CCM has gotten.     I love the song More Beautiful You, I just heard it for the first time yesterday, but it was just when i needed it. I’ve been struggling with an eating disorder for 2 years, and it encourages me so much, and I cried when i first heard it.     I thank God Almighty for giving you a message to convey to all of these empty young ladies ,who are being bombarded with the world’s influences, telling them how they should look. I wish your song More Beautiful You was around when my daughter was battling the affliction of anorexia. She still has self-image issues, but she has been healed from anorexia thanks to the Blood of Jesus. May God Bless you in all that you do according to His will for your life.     I have just recently heard your music, and I love it! Your song “More Beautiful You” is great, but I pray “Stand For You” and “See the Wind” make it to #1 as well. I love them!! “Stand For You” makes me want to dance every time I hear it and then I want to shout it so everyone can hear! I wish more people would take the message of this song to heart. Seeing all the things that have infiltrated our society is so disheartening. Everything opposite of who Jesus Christ is has become so accepted and common place. Yet the very things that this nation was founded on and that made this nation great have become less than common, even banned. I pray more people stand up for truth and boldly stand once again on the foundation that this nation was built on – the one true God and his Word. Thank you for following God where he led you.     Jonny, like several others that have posted, I was introduced to you through your brother Matt (via “Braves Straight Up”). I’m a long time Braves fan and a big supporter of your brother Matt. I have always been impressed with Matt’s expression of his faith (playing Christian songs when he comes to bat, etc.). Through the “Braves Straight Up” I can tell that Matt is very proud of you … and so am I. I have two daughters, one of which is a teenager.     Hello Mr. Diaz,
    I am sixteen years old my dad was currently deployed to Afghanistan. About two days before he left he explained how he did not see the need for me putting on make up and always straightening my hair. I felt as if he just said it because he was my dad and was supposed to be nice. Few weeks ago I turned on the rado in my room and your song came up… at that time i was putting make up on, listening to your song and remembering what my dad had told me. This song is beautiful and it touched my heart. It was an eye opener for me. I immediately started crying. God has blessed you and I strongly believe that He used you as His instrument to touch not only girls but women also such as my mom. God bless you and Congratulations on your career.

    So I came across your song ” More Beautiful You” on joyfm today and it really hit me hard because you were describing my life about the 21 year old (22 close enough lol) I feel like all those things you mentioned. I think the hardest part is forgiving myself like the song “History” by Mathew West. It was so encouraging to hear your song.

    The first time I heard “More Beautiful You,” I cried. I do not cry when I hear songs, except when God uses it to speak to me in hard times. I have struggled with an eating disorder longer than I care to think about, and I’ve been getting help with it over two years now. God has taken me on an incredible journey and shown me I can do and be so much more than I ever expected of myself–physically, mentally, professionally, etc. “More Beautiful You” came out at another milestone in my life. I’ve prayed that God will teach me to see my body they way He sees it (and love it) so that I can accomplish His purposes in my life. He’s definitely working on that with me already. As hard and painful as it is and will be, I know the truth and that it will all be worth it.

    Will you be doing a concert in the DC/Northern VA area any time soon? I didn’t see any dates for those locations on the tour schedule. Thanks!

    I just wanted to thank you so much for the song “more beautiful you.” i just heard it on the radio and as i heard the lyrics i just started crying. it spoke the truth to me and i needed to hear it. i am 13, and what me and my friends see on t.v. gives us the impression that we have to wear make-up to be beautiful. it also makes many girls think that a guy will only like them if they are beautiful. i know that so many girls my age are insecure because of that. it is wonderful to be able to hear the truth in your music . god is useing you to do wonderful things and i know that he will continue to do so!!     I just wanted to let you know how much you encourage me. I’m sitting here, listening to your cd, using “More Beautiful You” for a music mapping assignment, and the chorus to that song is posted on my wall in my dorm room. I can’t believe you recorded your first cd your sophomore year in college, and not even planning on pursuing music. I’m a freshman in college, and I don’t have a major yet or a life plan or anything like that. Sometimes I feel really lost and uninsprired and without a drive or purpose. But then it all comes back to God. You had no idea your future was in music until God told you! :) So here I am, waiting for God to tell me. Anxiously waiting.     johnny, you do not know how much this song has helped me; i’ve got physical disablities and hafta have lotsa surgeries which leave me surgical scars, some from when i was just a newborn-and i’ve always felt ugly and scarred and unbeatiful. this song has helped me look through that and see God-how beautiful He made me to be, and i just want to say thank you, so very, very much.

    I love your song, “More Beautiful You.” I am buying your CD for all four of my neices who are 7, 10, 10 and 13. They are so precious and sweet. I really adore each one of them. I can already tell they are trying to fit in and be liked by their peers. It is such a vulnerable time in their lives. One small negative comment can be so hurtful to their image. Music has such an amazing impact on human beings. It reaches a whole different depth of our souls. I want them to listen to your song so they understand that they are truly beautiful (iinside and out) and that God created them so perfectly. Johnny Diaz, please keep writing and singing music. FYI – your bio was very interesting. I didn’t know you played baseball in college. I was a volleyball player for the University of Louisville. We even played your school! : )

    Having attended your concert last night and gotten to talk to you in the “signature line”, I want to thank you much for the obedience you are walking with God in, so very much!!!
    We, being in the waiting period thank you for speaking these words. They were very encouraging and I am thankful in heart for having been able to have been at your concert with Chris & Conrad and Bryan Weaver.
